Dr. Robert Windom, Former U.S. Assistant Secretary for Health, Endorses Greg Steube for State Representative

"I am pleased today to announce my endorsement of Greg Steube for State Representative. Greg understands the challenges facing our health care system. Most importantly, Greg understands the need to recruit bright young physicians to our state and make Florida a better environment for physicians to practice medicine," Dr. Windom said.

Dr. Windom graduated from Duke University undergraduate and medical school. He practiced internal medicine and cardiology in Sarasota from 1960 to 1986. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Cardiology and was awarded the Distinguished Alumnus of Duke University Medical School.

Dr. Windom is a former president of the Florida Medical Association, the Florida Heart Association and the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce. In 1986, he was nominated by President Reagan and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as the Assistant Secretary for Health, the highest position in the federal government attainable by a physician. He represented the U.S. in many foreign countries signing bilateral research agreements between them and the NIH, CDC, FDA and National Cancer Institute.

Dr. Windom is a clinical professor of the voluntary faculty of the University of South Florida School of Medicine and the College of Public Health. He is involved in the field of cancer vaccines, HIV/AIDS and WorldDoc, an Internet e-health service. In addition, Dr. Windom is the author of more than 35 medical publications and has received numerous awards and honors.

Greg Steube has attracted a team of the top advisers and supporters in the area including State Representative Ron Reagan, the incumbent Representative, who has endorsed Steube's candidacy to replace him. In addition, Congressman Vern Buchanan, State Senator Michael Bennett, State Representative Bill Galvano, former Senators Pat Neal and John McKay, Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee, Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight, Manatee County Sheriff Brad Steube, former Manatee County Sheriff Charlie Wells, Public Defender Larry Eger, County Commissioner Donna Hayes, Bradenton City Mayor Wayne Poston and many more have all endorsed Steube's candidacy and agreed to be part of his team.
