MANATEE — Greg Steube last year raised more than $150,000 in his campaign for the District 67 seat in the Florida House of Representatives, building a large financial advantage over the other candidates in the race, according to reports filed with the Florida Division of Elections.
Steube, the son of Manatee Sheriff Brad Steube, added to his lead by collecting more than $26,000 in contributions in the final three months of last year, according to a quarterly report filed Monday with the Division of Elections.
So far, Steube has spent a little more than $21,000 on his campaign, leaving him with almost $130,000 on hand, as of Dec. 31.
Steube has raised slightly more campaign cash than the four other announced candidates in the race combined.
The second-biggest fund raiser was Robert McCann. He collected $3,075 in the fourth quarter, bringing his take for the year to almost $68,000. He has spent more than $36,000, leaving him with $32,000 in the bank — not counting a $25,000 loan he made to his campaign, according to reports.
A third candidate, Jeremiah J. Guccione, reported $10,500 in fourth-quarter contributions, bringing his total raised to more than $50,000. He had more than $42,000 in the bank — not counting a $50,000 loan.
The fourth candidate in the race, Marie Nisco, reported that she has not raised or spent any money since launching her campaign last year.
The lone Democrat in the District 67 race, Z.J. Hafeez, reported collecting $30,840 in contributions during the final three months of 2009, and spending only $85.43.
